I recently purchased a Belkin Wireless Cable/DSL Gateway Router (model FSD6230-3) and have encountered slow file download speeds.
My original network was a Pentium 3/Windows 2K computer, a Pentium 4/Windows XP computer, and a Cisco 675 DSL modem connected to a Netgear Dual Speed Hub (model DS104). My ISP is Cincinnati Bell FUSE. My DSL provider is Cincinnati Bell Zoomtown. This connection allows up to 4 computers on 1 account. Each computer must logon to the internet separately. This system works fine. My file download speeds are consistently 70 to 80 kilobytes per second.
I added the Belkin Wireless Router to allow me to connect to a 3rd computer in another room. The new network has the original 2 computers connected to the Netgear hub. The Netgear hub is connected to the Belkin Router. The Belkin Router is connected to the DSL modem via the Internet/WAN port on the router. The 3rd computer is connected to the Belkin Router using WiFi 802.11b. With this new network, I see 2 differences in behavior: 1) If 1 computer is logged on to the internet, then all computers are logged on to the internet, 2) my file download speeds are now in the range of 30 to 40 kilobytes per second.
Does anyone know why my file download speeds are so slow?
