Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this but it seems right as its related to vista beta 2. i was able to download at a much faster rate from the same connection in XP. since i made the switch to vista beta 2, my download speeds have been very low (i.e. 80 kB/sec). is there some setting that i need to change? anything that i could be doing wrong?

thanks guys; all help is really appreciated...

What are you experiencing the slow downloads from? HTTP, FTP, SMB? And with what applications have you tried?

I havent experienced this behavior and cant recall anything specifc from the bug reports I've read but dont know much about the specifics from your post.

Of course once you do have some specifics bug it (even if it's something that can be corrected); it shouldnt be slower "out of the box".

not really. they've also been quite slow. i really don't get what's going on. i might switch back to winxp and see if im right about vista.

Sounds like a good idea, make sure to bug your results. Include as complete details as possible so that they'll be able to investigate.

This is a longshot, but I'm guessing it could also be a driver issue with your network card. If you have a spare NIC laying around, pop that in and see if Vista has a driver for it that may work better. Then you know for sure, or have at least ruled out another problem, without any reinstallation. :)

It should still be bugged, the bug report would include the driver version for MSFT to investigate. This way if there really is an OOTB driver issue they can address it (most likely through new MU drivers.

Of course trying new drivers is still a good idea to actually solve the problem ;)

Are you using Vista x64 or Vista x86?

I've tried both, and x86 worked fine - I was getting my usual 600-800KB/sec. I had reinstalled and tried x64 since most people were saying it is pure crap, and went back to download Office 2007 Beta again since I deleted them, and was only netting around 150-200KB/sec. I played it off as a fluke and that others were hogging the server... but hwo knows.
