Slow CD reading in parallels

so i was installing Office 2003 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein the otherday and it took bloody ages!

RTCW later turned out to be complete waste of my time seeing as it didnt even load without spitting out errors.

but it was just sooooo slow to install, the CD drive must of been doing 1x or 2x at the most. it barley made any noise. what gives? anyone else got this problem?
