Slow Cd burning

I'm using a 48X cd / dvd player with Liteon 40/12/48, and it is taking over 8 minutes to burn a cd, is that normal?

During the burn process with nero, my used read buffer starts full but then fluctuations down to a stable 56%. It was not doing this before i formatted my harddrive and i was wondering if i installed something wrong. I could have sworn i was burning faster before.

Can someone help?

Thanks.

Something is not installed correctly, or something. Is DMA enabled? What operating system? What is your drive configuration set up as, master, slave, etc?

first of all... thanks a lot for your reply

i have some questions

where do i check if DMA is enabled?
and which drive should be slave and which should be master?

I have no idea how to configure my drive....

Could be the media you're using. I bought some cd-r's a while back, they were rated at 32x. I have a 24x Plextor.

Took me 2 spindles to figure it out, but my drive saw the cd-r's as cheap, and would only write at 16x. Bought some known good quality cd-r's and I was back at 24x.

If you bought some no-name ones, go and get some brand name ones, like Fuji, Sony, Imation, Memorex, etc. These have proven well for me.
