Slow boot up and shut down in W2K

I am running W2K and it seems to run fine except for boot up and shut down. When I shut down, it gets to the point of "saving your settings" and it stays there for about 1-4 min. And when I start up, it gets to the point of "preparing network connections" and stays there for 2-5 min. After it finally gets past that, all is fine.

I am not on a network, and thought I had all of that shut off, but maybe not. It seems like it just keeps getting worse. I try to keep my files cleaned out and my drives defragged, and I have checked for spyware and viruses and have not found any (of course there still could be one).

This is not a big problem, but it drives me nuts. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!

Have you check the EVENT LOG to see if there is any
error that may show what service may be hanging on
bootup or shutdown?

Are you using any CREATIVE (SB) products?
Any USB devices connected (keyboard, mouse, ext drive, etc...)?
What SERVICE PACK do you have installed?

Thanks for the reply!! :)

I am running W2K Service pack 4
I do have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum
I have the following USB products connected constantly:

HP Printer
Epson Scanner
Speed Stream DSL

I have a Olympus and a Kodak camera on USB occasionally.

In the event log on startup, I get the following errors:

Netlogon--This Windows NT computer is configured as a member of a workgroup, not as a member of a domain. The Netlogon service does not need to run in this configuration.

Service Control Manager--The Net Logon service terminated with service-specific error 3095.

DCOM--DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service netman with arguments "" in order to run the server:

DCOM--DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service netman with arguments "" in order to run the server: (This is not a double post, it is listed as an error twice in the event log)

DCOM--Unable to start a DCOM Server: as /. The error: "The system cannot find the file specified. " Happened while starting this command: mobsync.exe ?Embedding

Any ideas?? Hope this helps understand my problem. THANKS!!!!

All the errors are related to the Net Logon error.

To get remove the cause of these errors go to:
START \ RUN and type services.msc

Scroll to the NET LOGON service and double-click
on the StartUp type pulldown, make sure it is set to MANUAL (then click STOP/APPLY)

Thanks!! That has helped, it is some faster but it still hangs there for several seconds, almost a minute, before it starts. I restarted and checked the event log and here is what I got:

The first two events were "Information" types:

1. VvPciUsb--VVBUS driver started successfully
2. VvPciUsb--VVBUS driver stream enabled by ATMOS

The next three events were "Error" types:

1. VvPciUsb--Signalling command completed with ATMOS error
2. DCOM--DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service netman with arguments "" in order to run the server:
3. DCOM--DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service netman with arguments "" in order to run the server:

Thanks again for the help so far!! :)

WOOPS!! I forgot one. I also got the error:

DCOM--Unable to start a DCOM Server: as /. The error: "The system cannot find the file specified. " Happened while starting this command: mobsync.exe -Embedding

This error happened after I connected to the net.

THANKS!!
