Slow Boot Problems?

I am using an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe. Has anyone ever figured out why this board has that 8 to 10 second black screen with the little white underscore in the upper left hand corner after the BIOS screen and before the Windows boot screen appears?

I also just ran BootVis and found out why my P4 3.2 takes about 1 minute to boot. First there is the initial 10 seconds or so from the problem above, then it actually finishes the boot in 17 seconds, which is awesome by itself, but then it takes for ever to actually get to a useful desktop. The main source of boot loading has to do with the MRxSMB.sys driver. It delays the whole process to about 57-64 seconds. Has anyone else noticed this? I just figure that out last night and went to bed. I am going to try and figure out a solution tonight. If anyone else has allready solved this or the problem above, I would love to know about it. Thanks,

Surely you haven't selected the Quick POST, if you didn't your mother will make exhaust test of memery and devices every time it boot up, take a look in the BIOS and probable in the Advance section look for domthing related with the POST (or Power On-Self Tests)

It's called Quick Boot on this MOBO and it is already enabled. That was the first thing I checked.

If your going to use your computer, turn it on, go take a piss, get a sandwich (and a drink), then come back. It should be booted and ready to use by then. LOL! Really though, all I can advise is to search the forums for slow boot times, and possibly check an Asus fan web site for FAQ. Good luck.

I've just built a system using P4P800 and it takes ages to boot, like yours. We get the blinking underscore too.

My NF7-S does the same thing ... ever since I installed a Sony CD player ...

I'd try removing each IDE separatly/temporarily to find the culprit ...

I unfortunatly .. I'm going to have to live with this ,,, the RMA process is a headache for me ...
(I hate throwing money away on shipping .... and then possibly selecting another device with other problems)

I could kick myself!!!!! The last thing I finally tried worked! I had my boot devices set to Floppy, CDRom, then Harddrive. I don't have a floppy in the stupid thing (Yes, I feel dumb!) . I changed the boot order to HardDrive first, and voila! No more 10 second stupid cursor! Still trying to figure out the MRxSMB and MUP startup slow down problem. One down, one to go. Hope that helps others : )

Disable "File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks", reboot.

If you need this enabled then add it again and reboot.

Should fix that problem.
