Hello All, and Happy Easter.

I'm runnig WinXP pro on a 2.2ghrz pro -w- 512 m ram.

It would seem that over the last couple of days my access time has increased dramatically.
I've run
Disk Clean up
Disk defrag
Scan Disk

AVG
AD-AWARE
Spybot

And it would seem my system is as clean as I can get it.
But whenever I have to retreive a file or a program has to open the files dialoque box it takes forever.
Any thought or idea's here?

TIA
Neil

Could something have changed the DMA settings without my being aware?

How do I check this setting? Is it an XP setting?

TIA

Ultra DMA 6 - Ultra133

This is one of the many options I have.
Apparently I have listing under disk drives which list all of my HD's.
But IDE controllers are under NVIDIA IDE something.

Many things can cause problems like that. First thing, why don't you try the same operation in safe mode. Also, what are you trying to do exactly that runs slow?

John,
Just doing everyday tasks things seem to be fine. The only time I really notice slowness is when I have to access a file from my C: drive. The folders menu pops up the I have to click my computer or c:\ and that's where I get the hang.
Sometimes more than 5 to 10 sec.
I've not tried running anything in safe mode, I'll give that a shot.
I'm running on a GIGAbyte board -w- the NVIDIA nforce 2 chipset. I tried downlloading new drivers for this last night but there was no change.

Peace
Neil
