Slow 2D with GF4 in XP?

I have been reading all over USENET about how 2D su(ks under XP with GF4 Ti4xxx cards.

Try a google groups search yourself for: GF4 slow 2D XP and see what you get.

Has anyone here encountered these problems?

I currently have a GF2 GTS that I am happy with and was only considering upgrading because I thought the GF4 would be a big jump, in both 2D and 3D. I do a little gaming, not a lot. I also need DVI (just got a flat panel).

Any comments?

Thanks!

Never had any problems (2D or otherwise) with my PNY GeForce4 Ti 4400 in any OS I have used it in (XP Pro, 2K Pro, 98SE).

I also love my Geforce 4 Ti. Visual quality is excellent as well. Could you explain what you mean by slow 2D? A Geforce 4 Ti is a HUGE improvement over the Geforce 2, but only if you are gaming. If you aren't gaming, then just about anything will do (although I really like the Digital Vibrance available with the Detonator Drivers.)

You hit the nail on the head. The threads I've seen on USENET indicate that 2D in a GF2 under XP is well below where it should be for some people. I only game a little, but I don't want to go Matrox, for example ... I need something with excellent 2D and decent 3D, not the other way around.

I'm now considering the Radeon 8500LE. Still not sure if that's the right choice either. Video cards are usually the worst price/performance upgrades I do! 🙁
