SlotKey & Celeron in older Gigabyte Motherboard.

I'm thinking of upgrading my Dad's PC for X-Mas and was wondering if the Gigabyte GA-6EM motherboard board would support one of the faster, speed greater that 600mhz, Celerons. It's a slot 1 board but I was thinking of buying a slotkey and sticking a socket 370 celeron on it. I've written to Gigabyte but they have been no help at all. The only response I've received from them is that this is a "discontinued board." Gee thanks guys...tell me something I didn't know. Anyway if anyone has a clue about this any help you could give me would be great.

Thanks.

What chipset does the motherboard have? I am running an old LX chipset motherboard with an Iwill Slocket and Celeron 466, but it won't support the newer Celerons (anything over 533Mhz) because those are the .18 micron chips. If you have the LX chipset, you're out of luck unless you stay at 533Mhz or less.

I did some research for you and found out that your board has the 440EX chipset, which was a "value" version of the LX chipset. In other words, the best you can probably do is a slocket with a Celeron 533. Of course you have to make sure that the latest BIOS revision can go up that high. Good luck.

Yeah...I discovered that myself thsi afternoon. The way it looks now I may just get him a whole new MB & CPU. Thanks for all your help!!!!
