How can I tell the difference between the two cpus by looking at them? I went to toms hardware and it says that the 300a's core is bigger. I looked at the 300 and 300a's core and the one I have is the bigger core. I am just wondering if their is any other way. The chips pcb says:

08310200 - SL2YP

300/66 Costa Rica

Thanks for any info

Thanks for the info. The Intel site says that this isn't the 300a. But When I compare pictures with toms hardware site the core looks exactly like the one he shows as being the 300a. The core on the regular 300 is noticably smaller then the core on the one I have. Wierd.

Very easy to check. Use WCPUID to check if you have an L2 cache.

No L2 cache = 300.

128KB L2 cache = 300A.

You can also read it from the Type/Family/Model/Stepping string.

065x = Covington 300

066x = Mendocino 300A with 128KB L2 cache.
