G'day to all,
The time has come to finally replace my MSI-6167 (i was never completely satis. with it anyway) Anyway so far it seems that the replacement would be either the ABIT KA7 or the ASUS K7V but they seem (according to reviews) to be daring equals in about all aspects can you guys help me decide with good argument and stuff. Or offcourse mention another "SLOT" "A" MotherBoard that's even better in your opinion.

txs,

I'd say your better off waiting until you can afford a new processor as well and then upgrading to SocketA. Slot A has begun to diee off now than the Athlon has switched to SocketA.

I agree with Rand - the Slot-A is really yesterday's newspapers. Maybe get a Tbird and an ASUS A7V and overclock it if you like. If you're not an overclocker, then maybe get the MSI (Micro-Star) K7T Pro (MS-6330), which is what AnandTech uses for some of their web servers.

If you have your heart set on a SlotA board, I'd get the Asus. It has better memory bandwith and such. Plus witht the latest bios, you can change the cache timmings in the bios for great overclocking.

I have the K7V-T that supports the tbird. A Tbird 750 with 900 core is currently @1GHz
Also have a K7V with classic Athlon 700 at 900MHz with 2/5 cache in bios. Both are super stable and fast as hell.

Although you've had bad experiences with Microstar, or so you indicate, the best Slot A mobo is the K7 Pro. But buying a Slot A board now is kind of limiting....if you go KX133 SlotA, you can't use a Tbird, but if you go Irongate, you lose AGP 4x.

A nice SocketA board like the Abit KT7 would allow you to replace your current CPU with a dirt cheap Duron 600 and overclock the snot out of it (900+ MHz is common). Best part is, you can sell the old CPU and probably get enough money for it to buy the Duron 600, which costs less than $70 and rubs as fast an old school Athlon 600. Plus, your upgrade path will not be so limitted.

Txs guys 🙂

i'll go for the asus I think, I just wanted to lengten my classic's life (for me) by doing some enhancing (i.e. overclocking) and i c that the asus is easier to get over here anyway.
