When I'm applying artic silver to the heatsink, what area should i cover? Also, how should i spread it? I was told by a friend to just use my fingers, but now I'm reading that you want to make sure there are no finger prints on the cpu and its clean. Any suggestions?

What I did is, I used a VOS 32 and just applied some paste on the heatsink using a big knife to a get an even surface... well it worked for me, gut a 700 up to 920 (8.5 at 108)...

Just don't use too much, or the paste gets in the way of conucting the heat away from the CPU. This is a common mistake. Just enough to insure uniform contact.

Just apply it to the core. Grab a baggie or other similar bag, put your finger in it, and use it to smooth the ASG to a very thin, but even layer. Then put the heatsink on. You apply to the core, not the heatsink. Put it together and the spring pressure of the heatsink should squeeze out the excess. :)
