I know it is a bit slow for some of you but the upgrade on a BX440 1998 motherboard is a bit limited.
This is with a 100mhz fsb @ 3.3v and 394 ram
I would like to know how far I can upgrade the 370 chip in this contraption.
I would prefer to use P111 non Celeron chip.
I understand that the converter adapts the voltage to the chip automatically....no jumper pins.
So.....what would be a viable P111 ? Your alternative ideas are welcome.
Anyone out there used such a gizmo?
TIA :);):(:eek::disgust::D:|

I don't understand your question (?)

I tried to find a Slot1 to 370 Chip converter, but came up empty. If your looking for a 370 to Slot1 then yes these exist and it will support up to a 1000MHz chip (my Abit Slotket is running a566@850).

Thanks. The Slot 1 is on the motherboard. The 370 converter gos into the slot vacated by the outgoing 400P11 cpu.
Maybe we are just saying the same in different ways.
Do I gather you have o/cd a 566 to achieve this performance and is it a Celeron?
Looking at chips for sale there seems to be a difference between "Retail" and "OEM".
Any idea of the implications?

retail includes a HSF and a nice warranty (from manufacturer)

OEM is the bare chip, and usually 30-90day warranty by the retailer.

BTW, since when is then Vcore on a PII 3.3v? :Q

You'll find a ton of info here. Its about upgrading Dell systems,

check XPS R and XPS T which have 440BX mobos.

Many thank for the info guys.
I seem to have muddled myself with quoting the motherboard voltage....sorry.
The Dell info was certainly an adventure. The links took me on a cosmic tour of some really
wild Japanese o/cers.
One thing has worried me a bit. I assumed that all "Slocket" gizmos were the same.
Seems there are many flavours out there.
When the "ebay" auction purchase finally arrives......maybe.....I will know if it is of any use!
Thanks
