I have an Asus P3V4X mobo. I am thinking about upgrading my processor to 1GHz P3. Is there any difference between a slot 1 P3 and a slocketed P3 in terms of stability, compatability, ease of cooling, especially the 1GHz variant?

No difference in stability, I would get an FC-PGA and a slocket because you have the option to migrate to a S370 motherboard. In terms of cooling, the Slot will probably provide you with better cooling, but only socket coolers are coming out these days and they've been performing extremely well.

There are no differences that I can think of from the top of my head. About the only thing that I might suggest is that you get the socket 370 simply for the future. Motherboards with slot-1 connections are getting more rare and should you ever need to upgrade your motherboard in the future, you will have more choice (or at least more attractive choices) should you have a socket 370 CPU.

I don't think there is any real difference except that you can get the slot1 P3-1Ghz in a 100MHz bus speed if you like.

Personally, I am waiting for the P3-1.133 or a dirt-cheap P3-1Ghz, depending on how long I can hold off on upgrading... the 1Ghz is taunting me but the 1.133Ghz is out next month.

*thinking out loud* Must fight the upgrade urge... 800Mhz is not that bad :D
