Sloooow XP Shutdown

I recently purchased a new PC and installed Windows XP SP1. SP1 was integrated. It was not a separate install. Anyway, it takes between 2 and 4 minutes to shutdown. Has anyone else experienced such a srediculous shut down time and been able to correct it? It sits on the "Windows is Shutting Down" screen. I have almost nothing installed on the PC. I have had this issue from the first boot after the install.

Also, I am thinking it has something to do with SP1. Originally, I installed Win XP Pro without the service pack. The shutdown was taking about 10 seconds.

Odds are its a program failing to unload. Logitech software has been known to do it. If your running their software update it. If not what other progs are running at shutdown?

Thanks for the reply. I am using a logitech mouse and keyboard, both wireless, but I did not install any of the drivers or software from the Logitech CD. I simply plugged the recievers into the new PC.

Also, this slow shutdown occurs immediately after a fresh install of XP Pro with SP1 integrated, before I had applied any patches or software. Can you tell me what the best way to see what programs are closing down during the shutdown?

First I would go to the Event Viewer and see if XP logged a problem. What do you have in your tray. It is most likely one of those progs.

I have been reading through endless pages on the MS website. One of them suggested booting in Safe Mode, and then shutdown to see how long it takes. So I tried it, and it shutdown in less than 10 seconds. I then did another boot in safe mode, except this time, I selected "Safe Mode with Networking". This time I shut down it went back to the 2 to 4 minute shutdown. I tried disabling the network adapter in Device Manager, but it still shutdown as slow as before. So... still trying.
