Slockets question

I've got a Compaq Presario (5665), and I was interested in doing a slocket on it. It's currently 450MHz (PII), so a CPU boost would be nice. I looked up the chipset, and it says Intel 444BX/ZX (that's what OnTrack's diag. software says). Since it's a Compaq OEM board, it also has Compaq (as far as the diag. software reports) BIOS (5/18/99). I was wondering what you all would suggest for a slocket, and how much a CPU I could get running on this thing using a slocket.

Some BX boards can run coppermine celeron2 / p-iii but it usually requires a BIOS update, and possibly running the chip over its default voltage (using a more expensive slotket with voltage settings). I assume you've checked Compaq's site and not found a BIOS, so it might be time to start over.

If no one has a better answer:

You could put together a Celeron 1.x GHz- tulatin barebones (case, mobo, CPU) for $200 - $275 depending on mobo and how fancy the case, then use your existing RAM, HD, video. Or a faster 1 GHz Duron (also uses your RAM) but then be careful to get a good case.

I usually recommend the ASUS TUSL-C for people who chew gum -- I mean for people wanting to go Tulatin.
