intend to get a celeron 2 600 for my abit bh6 rev 1.1. heard from my friend that i need to get a special slocket that can convert 2.0v to 1.6v for the fcpga processor (bh6 is slot 1).

anyone has any idea how and where i can find such a slocket? is it just any slocket? can i simply use the slocket i am using right now for my celeron 400?

thanks!

You need a FC-PGA to Socket 1 converter. Lots of people recommend the Asus one. Abit makes one too. Here is a generic one from mwave as an example. Link

Moonbeam: the link you showed me? the slocket supports Celerons of 300 - 500. does it matter cos i intend to get a celeron 600? (and overclock it to 900 if possible)

I have a similar setting and am not using the voltage adjustments on the slocket (MSI Master) the bh6 after bios update gave all the tweaking necessary... mine is running at 1.8v..

samgau: is your bh6 bios the 6/22/00 (SP) one? does that mean that with this upgrade i can just grab any slocket off the shelf?

I'd recommend the MSI Master. Don't know if they still have them but I got mine from Onvia for $11 with free shipping.

Yes, either will do. The asus one got lots of positives a year or so ago when the coppermines came out. I think you can manually set the voltage on it if it's necessary. The abit one seems to make sense for an abit board but I have no experience with it. I got a generic one for my friend's system with an adtronics mid tower and it was too tall to be able replace the case side panel. The asus one seems to be as short as they can be made in case headroom is limited. It sweems like some of the bios updates just make it possiple for the system to report that there is a for example 600 MHz celeron installed instead of something like Genuine Intel processor. They still work like they should even if not listed properly. There may be some other stuff worth having though. Not sure. Good luck.
