Hi,

I've just installed a Thermalright SLK900U and a Panaflo 92mm fan on top of it. The combination is working fantastic, sound is very quiet and the cooling is significantly better than the stock Intel HSF.

I had a 3 pin header on the end of the Panaflo fan, and plugged that into the motherboard where the Intel fan plugged in. With the Intel unit I could monitor fan speeds, but now with the Panaflo installed I don't see that information anymore, it reports that no fan is connected. The fan is definitely working, it's spinning all the time.

What do I do to be able to monitor the fan speeds again? Any detriment to NOT being able too see that info? The fan speed should still increase with CPU temps right?

i'm having the same problem but i think the temps are accurate despite the fact that it shows the fan not spinning

Was your old fan attached to your motherboard though? I just changed from a Delta 60mm connected to the motherboard to a 80mm fan connected through a 4-pin connector, and where before my motheroard reported the fan speeds while a fan was connected to the motherboard, it doesnt now I have the other through the 4-pin. So that could be the problem.

Oops misread your post, didnt see where you said that you had the new fan attached exactly where your old one was. Sorry! :D

Yes, the old fan was connected to the motherboard and the new fan is also connected to the motherboard with the 3-pin header. I've heard of people connected a single wire to the 3-pin motherboard header for fan monitoring, and then the remaining 2 pins connected to a 4-pin power connecter off the power supply, how this is done or if it would help I don't know, since there should be a monitoring wire straight to the motherboard from the fan as it's connected now...

Your common models of panaflo fans don't support RPM monitoring. They do make special models with this feature, but the only place I know of that sells 'em is www.coolcases.com.

That explains it then, thanks. :)

I've got the same setup as you (SLK900U + 92mm Panaflo L1A) but I got one of the rpm-monitoring Panaflos. I got mine from Digikey.com. Search for part number "11043-ND". They're $8.75. I have it plugged into the 3-pin MoBo header and it works fine. Runs at around 2000rpm.

Here's what Digikey has for Panaflos with RPM monitoring:

P11039 - 80mm M1
P11043 - 92mm L1
P11042 - 92mm H1
P11050 - 120mm H1

And the non-monitoring 80mm L1 is: P9736

If you search for any of these, there is a link to pull up the catalog page with all the Panaflos. NOTE: They have a $25 minimum or they tack on $5.

I was thinking of calling them up and asking them to start stocking the 80mm L1 with RPM...
