Just a quick question. I ran into a 900U real cheap so I'll be using this on my new setup. I planned on purchasing a 92mm panaflo for some nice quiet cooling. I assumed I'd use the lower rpm model as I don't really want to use a fan controller, just want it to hum away at 12v. So this fan will be plugged into the motherboard standard connector.

Question: Do I need any adapters or anything or just plug the thing into the board? This fan I'm looking at is at the bottom.

Thanks for the help. As you can tell I'm new at this :p

I got mine (same M version) from SVC and it was bare leads only; you can plug the leads into the 4 prong molex or a regular 3 pin connector. I put the yellow to the motherboard and the others to the molex (actually I didn't physically do it, I'm dumb like that but it's there now thanks Mac). Guess you could just run it to the motherboard, but why? I hate pulling current from there if I don't have to.

Anyway don't think you can just plug and play.

Just about every Panaflo I've owned has come with bare leads, from the link you have it looks like this one does too. You can run it from the motherboard, or from a molex. I won't swear to this, but I don't think that fan has rpm signalling, which would be the main reason to run it from the mb in MHO. Also, if you are looking for quiet, you should get the L series Panaflo, the M is not loud, but you will hear it. I run the same heat sink with a Panaflo U series, and it's fairly loud even turned down as slow as possible with my rheobus.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that fan not having rpm. I believe the 3rd wire is strictly a alarm function in case of a locked rotor...???

Yeah I'm pretty sure it doesn't have RPM signalling. I think I looked at the L series too, I know I've heard great things about them, but I think I chose the M series based on total CFM. I thought the L series was a lot lower. I'll re-check my decisions.

Thanks for helping out the new guy :)

Yep mine came with bare leads....Not to difficult if you look at how an older cpu heatsink fan's wires were connected to the 3 pin connector ...Just emulate it and you will have no problems....

As far as I know all cpu fan headers have to have something connected to them or the board will not boot up properly...A safety feature??

Ok I did a little more research and supposedly the fan does have rpm sensing. All models with -1BX in the model number or state 2PPR with the rotor lock alarm have them. Apparently this one's a lil louder than the L models and the L models have very close if not the same CFM output. Guess I'll have to hunt down a L model with the BX in the model number hehe.

Thanks again!

I have rpm sensing with my M; not a problem.

I've got the H (80 mm) on an sk-7 so and so does Mac the solder guy; they really aren't loud at all and the noise is low profile in terms of a pleasant low hum.

My 92 M is barely audible. I'm very happy. I would be afraid to go L with the cfm it's rated at; some folks do but I've seen them also underclock their comps in search of a quiet computer; guess at my age my hearing isn't that acute, these are really nice especially the M 92.
