If your motherboard has no holes for the 900, then you most likely don't have holes for the 800(u). 800(a) with any decent 80mm fan will work fine.

I have an slk800a with a vantec tornado 80mm it keeps a 1.87ghz xp @ 2.142ghz @ 34C under load.

So yes, it should be more than adequate (if you get the right one that doesnt require holes)

sorry i meant 800 A - are they hard to install? (mobo already in - upgrade from 2000xp/volcano 7+)

They install just like any other AMD heatsink that doesn't use the mounting holes (i.e. your v7).

install is easy once you figure out how those clips keep your damn fan on 🙂
