For Intel boards you can only use 80mm fans for some reason. I forgot why but remember reading it.

That's interesting. Do the brackets on Intel boards block large fans on smaller heatsinks?
The SLK-900 takes up to 92mm, but it also does 80mm fans.

yes it fits on intel boards, i am looking at the 92mm solution because it is the quietest

Right, but I'm wondering why:

I think it was you can't use the spring clips to hold it to the mobo with a 92mm fan, you need to use the 4 bolts and the backing plate. IIRC

You mean, as pertains to the fan size limitation on Intel boards? The SLK-900 uses mounts to the motherboard, not the socket.

No no no... You guys are reading the reviews wrong. Basically it comes with a mount bracket that you can optionally use with an Intel board. This bracket allows you to be able to install the heatsink without needing to remove your motherboard. The downside of this is that you will be limited to 80mm fans if you use the bracket. If you want to use a 92mm fan, you will need to use the spring screws that come with the heatsink and will also need to remove the motherboard so you can properly install them (as you need access to the backside of the motherboard).

Basically, if you don't need to use a 92mm fan, you have the option with an Intel board to not have to remove the motherboard to install the heatsink, but if you want the 92mm fan (or use an AMD chip) you will have to remove your motherboard to install it.

slk-900 install instructions

It says in this page from thermalright, about the optional intel clips that can't be used with a 92mm fan because of
"Remark: Limited by clearance within retention module,
only 80mm and 70mm fans can be installed
in this application. "

FWIW

Yes, key words are "the OPTIONAL Intel clip", i.e. OPTIONAL meaning you do not need to use it. As in what I said in my last post. It can make life easier if you don't want to use a 92mm fan, cause you have the "option" of using the clip and not need to remove the motherboard.

Oh
Thabnks for clearing that up

Also, you need to watch for HS/fan clearance on the south side of the ZIF socket on Asus A7N8X. I had a bit of a problem, and I needed to mod the 900 to clear some caps. just FYI
