SLK-800

I have just put an SLK-800 heatsink and some Artic Silver 3 on my Athlon XP 1900. In sysoft sandra and in my Bios it says my CPU idle temp is 48c but I also have a Vantec Nexus control panel but that reads my CPU temp at idle as being 33.5c. Which one is right?

He said his BIOS temps are the same as Sandra. I would check to make sure the HS is seated flat on the core. I have heard about the SLK800 slipping forward onto the raised part of the socket and not making contact with the core.

i moved my computer from my dorm to my house and my temps went up like 10 degrees C so i reseated my SLK800 and temps dropped 8 degrees C, the other 2 degrees i accounted by the recent heat wave. anyway, where do u go to check the temps in BIOS?

yes.

my question is, is your the "bolt down" type or "clip on" type?
I know that the bolt down type addresses the problem of the HS slipping a little bit.

BTW I have the same HS with UV Sensitive fan from SVC

just throw the artic silver 3 to the trashcan....it's messy!!!.....i got slk-800 too and my bios says that cpu-temperature is 41-42C and soltek HM says it's 32C so the difference is about the same that it's in your system...my computer is overclocked to 13 x 166 and it's stable (3h prime95 torturetest...)

I have checked the seating of the heatsink and it looks ok. I have only applyed a small amount of Arctic Silver 3 is this correct? Also what about my Nexus Control Panel? Are its readings right?

Thanks for all the help guys.

P.S. My answer to jodhas's question is that my heatsink is a clip on type. When I intalled it it slid all over the place before I cliped it down.

Also my is my Nexus Control panel rubbish?

Small amount of AS3 is correct. You should be careful though to not let the heatsink slide around while clipping it on. The sliding around messes up the AS3 and the contact between the heatsink and cpu. Also the heatsink could easily slide up onto the socket. Even when the slk-800 is seated correctly, there is only a few mm clearance between the the bottom of the heatsink and the socket. You should clip one side on first making sure the heatsink is as far over towards that side as possible before cliping the other side down. I hold it in place against the first clip while I clip the other side so it doesn't slide around and stays in the right place. Then I look under the heatsink with a flashlight to make sure that its not up on the socket.
I don't know whether your bios or Nexus temps are correct. Either could be accurate or inacurrate. You could check out the ECS board at AMDMB. A search there should get your info.
