SLK-800, SLK-800A, and SLK-800U

What is the difference between the three?

I have been doing a lot of looking and I see that the SLK-800U has a better mounting system, but other than that is there a difference.

Are there any reputatible sites that have done a comparison of the three?

Thanks
Ceti

The "U" version bolts to the motherboard while the others clip on the motherboard catches, but they do use all 3 prongs. They all are the same basic heatsink but the "U" version is slightly larger, 45 grams heavier. The "A" version is just the newest revision, I can't see any real difference.

Correct, I believe it has something to do with the fins.

The "A" version has 4 more fins. I have one, and the fins are so close together that I have to clean it weekly!

Thanks for clearing that up.

Does anyone know if the A version actually performs better than the U version? But then again to the possible performance benefits out weigh the problems of dust.

There is no real difference between the A and the U. The U was developed to complete Thermalright's heatsink line for the P4. The A version is AMD only while the 'U' can work on both intel and AMD. As has been mentioned above the A does have 4 more fins, however, with as much on the heatsink, it requires a high cfm fan to get good results out of the Thermalright SLK 800/900 series heatsinks. If you don't mind the noise, personally I'd go with the 800A, but if you are one of those people who wants a quiet computer, look for something else, Vantec Aeroflow, Thermalright AX-7 + Panaflow..etc.

i've seen very good luck with the SLK-800 and low speed panaflow fans. i don't think that a highCFM fan is a requirement at all.
