SLK 3000 and SLI?

Hey all,

So I'm building a new high end gaming system for a client. It's going to have a 3800+ AM2, an ASUS AM2 SLI motherboard, 2x 1gb DDR2 667, and a 7950gx2 1gb video card.

I am pretty sure everything will fit well into an Antec SLK3000 case. I have used several of these in the past and have been very pleased with the quality and relative silence of this case.

However, I am a little worried about cooling. This case has a single 120 IIRC, and this should be enough to cool what's in there. However, if the customer were ever to add another 7950gx2, things could get rather toasty.

The client is really only concerned with performance, but I just wanted to give him a subdued, effecient package. 12 80mm fans on a full tower chassis is not necessary.

What do you guys think? Will the SLK3000 be a good choice, or should I go with something bigger, with more cooling options?

Thanks

Hey,
The SLK300B will be a good one for your build. Install a quiet low noise 120mm fan in the front ( remove the filter for better airflow ) along with an 80mm on the side panel and it should keep his rig nice and cool. The antec 3000b is hard to beat for air flow at any price. NOT THE biggest or deepest but pretty well organized and a 1st quality build. On the water cooling side i am not sure because I don't do water, but on the air side this is a GOOD CASE for flow and for temps.

Good Luck.

Along with others, about the only real problems I can find with the 3000 is that it can be a bit on the too small side for some systems and the flimsy door. If you want something just a bit bigger and with some water cooling accomodations built-in, take a look at the new CM Mystique. Unfortunately it's nearly twice the price of the 3000.

also the Gigabyte 3D Aurora or Antec P180 are good, large cases with good cooling options. The Aurora is even pre-drilled for water-cooling hoses. However both cost about twice as much as the 3000

Yeah I have a p180 for my main system. I like it a lot but actually find the multi-zone setup to be overly cramped. That and the fan that cools the lower hard drive rack is WAY too close to them. I have to be very careful to avoid cable interference.

So you guys think that in the future, a pair of 7950gx2s will fit in there, and not miserably overheat?
