I made a copy of my XP Pro disc (that I was given by a friend) with SP2 as a slipstream install. It will not work. I followed instructions to the letter.

Could it be that this copy of XP that I have is a cloned copy, and that would prevent it from working?

Nope. That's not the problem. Defective copy, improperly done slipstream, or it's a slipstream of a Dell OEM, which won't work using normal procedures. It would help if you said what "It will not work" means.

I recall now. It would not take the serial # that I had. I then took the original install disc that I made the slipstream with - installed it with the same serial # - and then installed SP1 - all worked just fine.

I may try again. It seemed to go just as described on Elergeek, but I may have missed something.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, with each new Service Pack, MS continues to block out corporate keys that are known to be pirated.
