Slipstreaming Win XP and SP2

Here's a reference on slipstreaming which says, regarding Nero, "make sure you have the latest version, but at least 5.5.9.0". The Nero software I have came with my CD-RW drive; it's Nero Express 5.5.10.4. So, it meets the version requirements stated by the referenced site. However, the screens I see with my Nero are quite different from the screen shots displayed on the referenced site.

For example, when I start Nero Express, I have five choices of action: Data, Music, Videos/Pictures, Copy entire disc, and Disc image or saved project. If I select Data, I have two choice, Data Disc or Bootable Data Disc. Bootable Data Disc would seem the right choice, but that screen, at the top, says "Add data to your disc. Then click on 'Next' to add the boot image from a bootable floppy disk." And, sure enough, if I go to the next screen, I see a box labeled "Read boot disc in drive", and it shows "A:\unknown size". There's a drop arrow for that box but it shows no other options. But, a floppy disk has nothing to do with this, as far as I can tell. I folders named xp and sp2 on C:\ and I have a file on C:\ named Microsoft Corporation.img, all the ingredients for slipstreaming, right?

Could I put Microsoft Corporation.img on a floppy disk and make Nero happy? And, be able to proceed with creating a bootable CD?

I've read other forum discussions on slipstreaming and seen suggestions to nLite. I downloaded nLite and started to install it. But, when I started to install it, a message appeared saying, "This program requires the .NET Framework. Please download and install the .NET Framework and run this setup again. Do you want to download the framework now?"

So, I have the nLite setup file that I downloaded, which is only 1.45MB, but I have to download this thing called .NET Framework, which is 22.4 MB, to make little 1.45MB nLite work.

I'd rather not download .NET Framework and install nLite, just for this one-time slipstreaming procedure if I can avoid it. I generally try to avoid unneeded installing and uninstalling of programs to avoid cluttering Windows Registry.

Nero Express won't do it.

I hear you on the .NET situation.

You may find that the full version of Nero is fully functional as a time-limited demo. It used to be anyway.

Thanks for your response. I'm taking a look at Nero software on eBay. I think I may get version 6.6.

nLite is what made me take the dive into the .NET Framework install, but last I checked, there is an alternative to .NET Framework 2.0 on nLite's website that you can install instead to make nLite work, and this is only 6.63MB.

Thanks, but I could not find an alternative on their site. Anyway, I've already bid on Nero 6.6 on ebay. It's selling cheap and will be a significant upgrade from my version.

Just install the .net framework. Seriously, nlite is much easier and it creates a bootable iso for you. Then just burn that iso to a cd and you're all set.

I always used CDRWin on a recommendation a long time ago from Bart's CD page. It boot Windows PE (but you can use Bart's PE) and have a cmd environment to start a slipstream install. It works on DVD or CD.
