Here's a reference on slipstreaming which says, regarding Nero, "make sure you have the latest version, but at least 5.5.9.0". The Nero software I have came with my CD-RW drive; it's Nero Express 5.5.10.4. So, it meets the version requirements stated by the referenced site. However, the screens I see with my Nero are quite different from the screen shots displayed on the referenced site.
For example, when I start Nero Express, I have five choices of action: Data, Music, Videos/Pictures, Copy entire disc, and Disc image or saved project. If I select Data, I have two choice, Data Disc or Bootable Data Disc. Bootable Data Disc would seem the right choice, but that screen, at the top, says "Add data to your disc. Then click on 'Next' to add the boot image from a bootable floppy disk." And, sure enough, if I go to the next screen, I see a box labeled "Read boot disc in drive", and it shows "A:\unknown size". There's a drop arrow for that box but it shows no other options. But, a floppy disk has nothing to do with this, as far as I can tell. I folders named xp and sp2 on C:\ and I have a file on C:\ named Microsoft Corporation.img, all the ingredients for slipstreaming, right?
Could I put Microsoft Corporation.img on a floppy disk and make Nero happy? And, be able to proceed with creating a bootable CD?
I've read other forum discussions on slipstreaming and seen suggestions to nLite. I downloaded nLite and started to install it. But, when I started to install it, a message appeared saying, "This program requires the .NET Framework. Please download and install the .NET Framework and run this setup again. Do you want to download the framework now?"
So, I have the nLite setup file that I downloaded, which is only 1.45MB, but I have to download this thing called .NET Framework, which is 22.4 MB, to make little 1.45MB nLite work.
I'd rather not download .NET Framework and install nLite, just for this one-time slipstreaming procedure if I can avoid it. I generally try to avoid unneeded installing and uninstalling of programs to avoid cluttering Windows Registry.
