I am slipstreaming hotfixes to Windows XP SP3. Since Windows Media Player 11 isn't part of the disk by default, would it be useless to slipstream the hotfixes relating to it and would it cause problems during the OS installation?

What does slipstreaming hotfixes actually do? Does it perform the fix on the data files on the disk or does it perform the fix during OS installation?

You may be able to slipstream WMP 11 onto your installation CD if you'd like. If you haven't already, check out the MSFN Unattended Windows Forum.

Slipstreaming hotfixes usually creates a chain of installs that's automatically invoked during the Windows setup process (when it says 13 minutes left). It's no different than installing the hotfixes manually or through Windows Update, just saves you some time.

I would expect that if you try to install a WMP11 hotfix without WMP11 installed, it would just skip the installation.
