Slingbox 500 question

I'm going to Europe for a few weeks, and I couldn't stand the idea of missing the NHL playoffs. Where I'll be staying most of the time has no TV, so I figured it would be nice to unwind in the evenings with a little TV watching. I hooked the slingbox up to my Tivo premier.

My question is: I plan on taking a Dell XPS m1710 with me. It has great media capabilities (a wonderful screen and speakers), but the processor and wireless card are obviously a bit aged. It has a 7950 GTX GPU.

I also have a considerably newer Toshiba laptop with a core i5 and intel HD 3000 (I got it the middle of last year). Would I perhaps be better off taking the newer laptop? Would the newer wireless components make for a smoother viewing experience overseas?

CPU & GPU wise the XPS would be fine although you may see a bit of stuttering with just G wireless depending on how good the wireless is where you're going. I'd probably take the XPS and perhaps get a USB N wireless adapter if you notice a bunch of stuttering, it won't likely be from the CPU or GPU.

You can take an ipad and it will be more than enough. It's all about your upload bandwidth. The processing required for slingbox is tiny.

If it's a good enough signal, even .11a is more than enough. Your local DL speed will come into play of course, but generally speaking, your home connection will make or break the quality you'll get here.

HD Viewing: 2 Mbps
SD Viewing: 600 Kbps
Mobile Viewing: 250 Kbps
