Sling Blade Vs. Rain Man

Not which movie did you like better, but who do you think did the better acting job between these two great movies?

Tough call for me, too, but Thornton was sublime. He wrote the damn thing, too, and pushed for years to get it made. Last night in bed Angelina hoarsely whispered to me that she agreed . . .

i dont think the role billy bob did requires as much range as rain man does...but i think his subsequent work shows that he is capable and makes the argument a little more complex. i think that he invented to character shows more impressive cred than rain man. however, im pretty sure that most actors in that position pretty much "design" the character. i dont know much about the behind the scenes of the rain man stuff, though.

i think that billy bob was more believable in sling blade than dustin hoffman was in rain man.

might be due to the fact that i kinda grew up with hoffman and seen him is so many other things that i had a hard time buying him in that roll. whereas, i dont think i have seen anyhting else that billy bob has done.

oh man.....that's a tough one...

btw how does billy bob thorton pull off some of these roles? I never thought of him as a particularly amazing actor, and then he does sling blade, and then monster's ball a few years later...I still feel odd considering him one of the better actors of our time

A good friend of mine has an autistic sister. Hoffman's performance was amazing. It hit home enough that my buddy had a tough time watching the film.

Someone once told me that he spent a month at a home for the mentally challanged while preparing for his role. Don't know if it's true or not.
