Slightly OT --- Rio Riot MP3 player, anyone have one?

I understand that they have been delayed for a while due to some problems in the manufacturing and maybe the software? I have seen a couple of glowing reviews and one that just totally dissed the unit. I am very interested in acquiring one as it's really the only thing that fits the bill (easy to use display, jog shuttle, good capacity, good battery life). I primarily need a high capacity MP3 player that I can use in my company car (through a cassette adapter, absolutely no aftermarket stereo stuff would be permitted).

I have had a Rio Riot on order with PCMall for a week and have no idea when these will actually start showing up in stock again.

Any users comments would be much appreciated.

Big whoopdie do. I only have to xfer my songs to it one time... after that it's just the odd album here and there.

Sounds more to me like you're looking for agreement with a decision you've already made.

I use the D-Link ROQ-it DMP-220, with 64 MB of standard RAM and 128 MB of SmartMedia.

Together, it was about $150 from NewEgg. Been rather happy with it ever since, the only gripe that I have is that from all the four equalizer settings, only one sounds decently (Jazz).
Batter life is nice, unit is light.

Well, I just went and bought a Riot at Circuit City. My initial impressions are that the unit is a little larger than some people will like. Since I primarily want to use it in the car and on airplane flights this isn't much of an issue for me. The screen on the unit is fantastic with huge fonts, making navigating to a specific song a breeze. I will post a little more after I get the battery charged up and get a chance to really run it through it's paces.

i wouldn't get it...if you want high capacity, go w/ the archos jukebox RECODER USB 2.0

and what's even better about that archos unit is that it doesn't require drivers under most OSs (i.e. winxp, OS X, etc.)...it just shows up as an HDD and you can drop files into from explorer...it doubles as an HDD too.

it comes w/ 4 NiMH batteries that charge while the unit is plugged in, so you only have to change them once (which, from what i heard, is a pain in the butt...but only a one time pain i suppose)..

the only downside of the unit is its weight...slightly heavy for jogging or excercise...but i imagine the riot is absolutely no better.

The Riot is lighter than the AJB, however you are correct that the AJB is a little bit smaller.

The major drawbacks for me with the AJB are the crappy battery life (4 hrs typically) and difficult navigation (I had a buddy who had one and it isn't easy to scroll through different artists/albums.

I agree though that universal storage and USB 2.0 are nice features.

I just picked up an Apple iPod. The only thing wrong with this player is that there is no native Windows compatability which is easily solved with Mediafor's Xplay software. Though admitedly I also have Mac to use it with (iTunes is an awsome piece of software). Transfers and charges via firewire, smallest HD player available and good battery life what more can you ask for.
