Slightly OT: Best Buy Price Matcing Policy

Ok, heres the story, i have $160 in Gift Certificates to Best Buy from that WD 80GB Deal like 8 months ago or whenever it was. Anyway, i keep seeing all these good deals on stuff thru OD, Staples and OM, but nothing from BestBuy, and i have $160 in free stuff there, so i was hoping someone who has had experience with them give me some info on pricematching... on their page they state:

In-Store Price Guarantee
If, within 30 days (14 days for computers, monitors, printers and notebooks, camcorders, digital cameras and radar detectors) of your purchase from Best Buy, you find a local competitor offering a lower price on an available product of the same brand and model, we'll refund the difference plus another 10% of the difference. Bring us verification of the lower price, plus your original Best Buy receipt to claim your refund. Does not apply to special, bonus or free offers, and in California cellular phones and pagers. Does not apply to products with special financing offers. For complete price guarantee details, please see a customer service representative. We reserve the right to limit quantities. See store for complete details.

Sooooo, lets say i was to buy a hard drive from OD for $80 on sale. BB has the exact same thing, not on sale for $120 we'll say. Can i go to bestbuy with OD's ad and say i want this drive for the $80, or does BB not do that kind of thing. I can't tell if the "Does not apply to special, bonus or free offers" line nullifies pricematching any sale price, such as the $80 from OD.

Thanks for any help, and if this should be in another forum, let me know, cause i cant think of another to put it in 🙂

It does not belong in another forum. The Moderator sponsored ~~~~ How Do I ~~~~ is the place to ask how to price match, etc. The thread is stuck to the top of this forum.

BB pricematching policy, at least where I'm at and I believe this is nationwide, is that they will match a competitors ad at 110% on the same item, unless the ad states clearence, going out of business, free, etc....something along those lines.

Hope that helps...

I worked at a south florida best buy (actually two of them) for five years so I will try to answer this question.

You can go in to Best Buy and purchase an item (a harddrive for example) with your gift certificates and match it to a competitor's sale price, under the following conditions:

1) Competitor's sale price must be a straight price and not after rebate or 10% off.

2) Competitor must have it in stock and verify to Best Buy employee over the phone.

3) You must be willing to spend over an hour in the store just to buy a harddrive (your actual time may vary but will never be less) 🙂

All of this varies from store to store and manager to manager. I haven't worked for them since Jan 2002 so something may have changed. Most importantly, avoid going in Sunday unless you have an entire day to kill because from past experience you will wait alot longer for assistance.

Make sure you go to the department you want to purchase from to get the pricematch because they need to write it up on a CPO and then you go to the checkout or customer service (varies by store) to purchase the item.

Enjoy.

I think it's always easier to PM after you purchased the item...however, as stated by BB

"Does not apply to special, bonus or free offers, and in California cellular phones and pagers. Does not apply to products with special financing offers. For complete price guarantee details, please see a customer service representative. We reserve the right to limit quantities. See store for complete details."

the term "see store for complete details" according to my local BB means that it's whatever they want to say to the customer.....If they don't want to let you PM....they can just give you bunch of reasons and said that's what it means.....but sometimes you might run into some employees that will PM it for you without any questions.....YMMV

npohnl - The policy may be to call, but I've never, ever had a BB call the other story to verify that an item was in stock...and I just did a PM about a week ago (Target was out of GTA3 for the PS2).
Also, if you do not go there on a Sunday, I've never waited an hour to get a pricematch. 15 minutes is about the max on any day but the weekend where I'm at.

I'm not trying to start a debate, just relating my own experiences. Guess they will vary from BB to BB.

npohnl is pretty much right.
I still work at Best Buy and thats how we're supposed to PM. Personally, I hate PMing for people because it can take so much and pisses off other customers who need to talk to me. If the person wanting a PM is polite, patient, and understanding that it *can* sometimes take a while to complete a pricematch then I will usually just write up the CPO without calling the competitor and going thru all the BS. Oh, and it always helps if you're a regular or if you just say you are (we'd usually never even know)
