Super long time lurker here.
I am finally rebuilding my home data server and am migrating the drives and data over to the new build.
5 drives are "older" WD20EARS (2tb green)
2 drives are new WD30EFRX (3tb reds)
All the Green drives run through a Supermicro aoc-saslp-mv8 sas expander
The reds will run through it as well, eventually.
New build is running Server 2008r2 with a Flexraid-TRaid backup. Thus all the drives will be pooled. OS drive is a SSD.
After reviewing some SMART data on the older green drives I noticed that the three oldest green drives have some somewhat concerning stats...:
Drive 1:
14122 Hours On
658 Resets
1,185,582 Load/Unload Cycle Count!!!!!!
Drive 2:
15,090 Hours On
773 Resets
1,115,843 Load/Unload Cycle Count!!!!!!
Drive 3:
15,298 Hours On
710 Resets
822,987 Load/Unload Cycle Count!!!!!!
The other drives have about 9,000 hours and 600,000-700,000 Load/Unloads.
The drives themselves do not seem to be having any noticeable problems. What are your thoughts?
Is it even worth running "wdidle3" and changing the head park timer at this point...?
