Slight Dilema

Well I applied for a job at Applebee's last week and bestbuy as well. I already got the applebee's job, they're offering me a hosting position at $8/hr. I go in today at 3:15 to sign all the paper work. The thing is, best buy called me in for an interview yesturday. I went and seemed to really impress them (applied for a sales position). I think bestbuy would offer me a better wage, better hours (they open at 10 instead of 11 at applebee's so I'd be able to work more during hte week, I have another job at night which starts at 5), and I'm more comfortable with electronics so I'd rather have the bestbuy job. Now if I go in today at 3, can I just say "Hey could you just give me a few days to go over the offer?". It may sound like a stupid question, but I never had experiance doing this. It's like looking for the better deal. Or could you guys suggest something better to say?

- Got two job offers, Applebee's and Bestbuy
- Prepared to sign Applebee's today
- Bestbuy's hiring process takes longer, had 1st interview yesturday
- Can I ask Applebee's to let me think over the offer?
- Bestbuy offer's better hours, better pay, and better discounts.

Does it matter? If you don't put it on your resume only the government will know you ever worked there from your tax report. I'd take his advice. These jobs are everywhere and no one really takes the job too seriously.
If I were you I would look around for call centers, They are always hiring, and usually pay more if that is what you are looking for.

You're working at applebees, not NASA. They'll be fine.

If I were you I would look around for call centers, They are always hiring, and usually pay more if that is what you are looking for.

you might not but i bet the company does. it takes time and money to go through the hiring and training process. why make them waste their time and money for no reason?

when you go to give your "2 weeks" to a job in retail, they typically will tell you to just leave that day. they have no need to keep you there because you are easily replaceable.

only reason to give 2 weeks in retail is to not burn bridges. if you dont give a crap about the place though or the job, and dont need it as a reference, then screw it.

Exactly, it's not like this is an important job or anything. It won't even matter because you won't even need to put Applebee's on your resume because there will be no time between job issues. The only thing you would need to think about is if you ever wanted to work at Applebee's again.

Like he just said, tell them if you get the BB job that this job doesn't fit you well and that you'll no longer be able to work there. Pretty simple.

Hmmm I think I'll just go in today to Applebee's and say "Hey, could you give me until this friday to make a descision? I just need to look the paper work over". I'm not actually starting the job today, just signing the paper work.

Why do you think Best Buy is going to pay you more than $8 an hour?

And you're going to sound silly if you go into Applebees and say you need a couple of days to look the "paperwork" over. What are you going to be filling out beyond a W-4 and an I-9?

I would keep the job at Applebees, because if they move you from host to waiter you'll be making decent money in tips. Also, does Applebees require waiters to tip out? You could make some extra money as a host that way.

And finally, I think there are more hot girls working as waiters at Applebees than as salespeople at Best Buy.

Nice, Applebee's gave me until friday. I spoke to someone working at Bestbuy, she makes $10/hr in sales and hasn't worked there for too long.

I would rather work in Applebee's. You won't be constantly pressured to force service packages onto people.
