Slide conversion services

I hope that this is the correct forum. If not, please set me straight.

I have about 1500 slides/transparancies that are between 20 and 30 years old. I would like to convert them to digital images. DIY would be very costly in time and hardware investment. ScanCafe trans-ships to India while slideconverter.com is in North Carolina. Has anyone used any of these services? Are there other, better services?
