Hi all I have a problem with my new rig by where when SLI is enabled and I (or any application) changes the resolution the PC locks and the screen is completely striped vertically with thin coloured bars.
This has happened since day 1 so I cannot tell if I have any further problems as I cannot even get 3dmark to run. Grrr.
I can confirm that both my 6600 GTs will 3dmark in isolation and work fine.
My rig is as follows:
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe with latest v011 beta bios
Athlon 64 3500+ with Dangerden Maze4 watercooling
2 x Corsair 512MB PC3200 Modules
2 x Aopen 6600GTs with Dangerden Maze4 watercooling
Tagan 480W PSU
Dell 2005FPW LCD
I can confirm I have tried the following things to resolve the problem, all without change:
Replaced my 2 original Gigabyte 6600GTs with the Aopens
Replaced my original A8N-SLI with a new one
Reinstalling XP Pro SP1 and DX9.0c
Reseating the single/dual selector card
Using various different driver version from 73.00 onward with det destroyer used in between.
With previous drivers I could remove the videolink board, start up, set res at 1680*1050, enable sli, shutdown reconnect the videolink board and when I restarted the CPU usuage goes through the roof as if the system is trying to render the desktop in software??! If u pull up a window full screen windows would hang.
I am currently running the NGO 73.00 driver release and this gets around the high cpu load issue however still leaves me with a locked machine and vertical bars when ever I try to use my SLI for what it was intended for.
I?m so frustrated by this problem its untrue, so any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated.
EDIT:
OK so Iv:
installed the 1.08 A8N-SLI Delux BIOS
instaled the latest nforce4 chipset patch
tried a new videolink connector
also tried disconnecting all drives etc in my system that arent needed to boot.
Still the problem remains.
UPDATE:
can confirm BIOSes are the same, had reinstalled with slipstreamed SP1A CD Xp, drivers, SP2, still no joy
Also tried the other day runnin with jus 1 HDD and the mobo (on dedicated 12V rail) and 480W is plenty of power to drive 2 6600GTs, there no way there gonna pull that wattage thro the PCIe bus alone.
System locks up at differnt times when using VGA or DVI. For example, if I run the Direct3D test from dxdiag when Iv booted with the VGA cable on, the cube spins nicely. On DVI it turns half a turn. I ran perfmon in the background to monitor CPU overhead and for some reason when using the DVI and SLI is enabled the CPU is doing all the work (badly)
If I run with the videolink connector removed and SLI enabled I dont get the same prob. Some drivers are much more unstable than onthers tho, Ive tried at least 8 dif version now (using NFK in between) and they are much of a muchness of unstable nasty.
Im sure I saw something a while ago saying that the videolink connector doesnt make a great deal of difference to the performance of the cards, Id benchmark them both if I could jus try out my nice new shiney SLI rig to its full potential
