SLI and CrossFire = RAID 0
They are the worst bang for the buck ATM !! I tried an SLI setup and it sucks and I pretty much have the same feeling about the upcoming Crossfire, I just don't think games are this much demanding, but maybe in a few years by then you would need to upgrade so why bother

SLi, and CrossFire as well, are both a superb waste of money.

Unless you are someone willing to test the set-up for benchmarks and technology/technical efficiency.

In my humble opinion, Mr and Mrs Joe everyone shouldn't even consider dual-GPU.

It's a waste of money UNLESS you have two top-of-the-line cards. Look at it this way

I think I'll buy 2 6600GT's and SLI them, but a 6800 vanilla would be more powerful and cheaper. Why don't I just SLI two 6800 vanillas together, but wait, a 6800GT would be more powerful and cheaper. I KNOW!!! How about 2 6800GT's, oh, wait, a 6800 Ultra would be faster and cheaper. HOW ABOUT 2 6800 ULTRAS!!!!!!! oh, a 7800GT would be faster and cheaper you say? okay. what about 2 7800GT's? oh, right, a 7800 GTX would be more worth the money. HOW ABOUT 2 7800GTX's!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! oh, it costs 3 times as much as 2 6600GT's you say? hmm. back to square 1.

The same could be said for single cards...

I do agree though that SLI is really only for high end cards. I don't see the sense in dual 6600GT SLI rigs.

You should read some of my benchmarking threads. Everything you've said here is wrong, except you're roughly correct about the price of the 6600s vs the 7800GTXs.

There's a BIG difference in our opinions here too: I own three of the six sets you mention here, and used to have another. So I know what I'm talking about, you just posted misleading info w/o even bothering to post supporting links.

yeah this is just my idea about SLI. You're right.

Crescent13, I don't care if you post that you don't think SLI or Crossfire make sense for reasons they really might not make sense, like you have a monitor that's limited to 12X10 and you don't think what SLI can give you at those settings is worth it, or a 7800GTX is often as fast as two 6800GTs, but costs less. There are valid reasons to buy SLI, some reasons not to, and when comparing the flavors of SLI and single cards a million variables.

What I objected to was stating misinformation like "two 6800GTs is not as fast as an ultra", when on most newer games it would be much faster.

People considering SLI come to boards like this for info from other gamers, so we have a responsibility not to mislead them if at all possible.
