SLI tearing still a problem with 7800GFX?

I have a 6800GT SLI rig with the Asus mobo and Viewsonic 1600x1200 LCD monitor, and ever since day 1, there has been tearing in SLI mode. Goes away in single card mode. Only appears to affect DirectX games (WoW, HL2, etc.). V-sync does not work, either from the control panel or in-game.

1) Anyone else have this problem?
2) Anyone got a fix?

3) Most importantly - Does it still happen with the 7800GTXs? I'm hoping it was a hardware issue, and they got it fixed, but no one likes to talk about it.

I can't answer that, but since the 7800 is as good as 2 6800 Ultras in SLI, the problem definitely does go away if you only buy 1 :)

If you sell your pair of GTs you could upgrade to a single 7800 fairly cheaply and get a nice performance boost while cutting back heat, noise, and power.

rumor has it and yes its a rumor nvidia has a 7800gtx ultra up its sleeve laying and waiting. when ati releases r520 and lets say the benchmarks are impressive.<speculation>. then nvidia will release the ultra card. its believed to be 512 megabytes also.

Thanks Sniperruff. Any chance you'll reimburse me for any financial loss if it does NOT work? :)

I'm trying to find out BEFORE I spend over $1000! :)

buy them and test them. if you dont like the results, scratch some wires in there and claim it doesnt work so you could get a full refund, even though all that is illegal and fraud.

Yeah this is so funny to me too..... there is always something so much faster coming out.... that is why I still run my 8mb voodoo2000 ISA card. WHo needs all that speed when it will be obsolete in 14 months :).

I'm just going on, new stuff rocks!!! Forget about them grit, any computer geek on here that acts like to 7800 in SLI is over kill and that you are crazy for looking at them is just jealous. SUre it is over kill, but we are computer geeks....that's what we do. The day we quit bying the new stuff is the day we stop seeing cards come out like the 7800.

To answer your question though, I don't know. I had a couple 6600GT in SLI and I never saw any tearing. nVidia may have fixed the problem with the 6600GT, but is I read any articles I will PM them to you.

ps if you get a couple of 7800s let us know what you think.

No tearing on my pair of 6800GTs, but I am using a CRT if that makes any differences.

I'm going to laugh while i'm playing at the next gen performance for half a year and your stuck at 800x 600

For the past 6 months, have you been able to play at 1600x or 1920x 4aa/8af smoothly?

People with SLI have.

People with SLI also have had 7800GTX performance for 6 months.

I'm pretty sure if the GTX's have dual link DVI, they can push the Apple 30 inch LCD while you play on 1280x.

Now thats funny.
