Does NVIDIA have the micro stutter issue that AMD has when running linked GPUs?

I've just took out a pair of 5870s for gaming with Unreal Tournament III

I think AMD or Nvidia based setups can be affected. It has more two do with the nature of using multible GPU's for rendering than an AMD/Nvidia thing.

I also have a great experience to report. No troubles :)
Dual gpu is more work, at times, but its a fun work. Like perfecting your o/c.
Applying and checking settings/performance to prove I'm getting the most from the cards.

My last SLI rig was GTX 470 SLI, and once I got the one funky card RMA'ed/replaced (Win login screen lockup issue) it was flawless. If you didn't know it was a dual card setup, you would have never noticed. ...well, except for the kickass performance. I can't wait to to get my second GTX 580.

UT3 doesn't take a whole lot of horsepower to run, you're probably at overkill already...

It looks like one of your old 5870's by itself or your GTX480 would likely max this game out at 8xAA at 1920x1200 resolution, quite possibly at 2560 res as well. I can't imagine you'd see too much from another card.

The above link is to 4870 and GTX280 benches (and multiple of each). But given that a 5870 and GTX480 are both quite a bit faster than either of those, it's safe to say you should be all set with one GTX480 (or 5870).

When you play UT3 you don't play to look at the thing maxed, well I don't at-least. I have never played a faster paced game than UT3 so it's all about unadulterated speed & skill!

UT3 didn't like the 5870s that much. The single GTX 480 has improved my game 1000% - a big difference is noticed when dodging. A common problem was something called dodge-lag.... it was the first thing that i noticed being gone! (in the world of Facebook - LIKE!!) I'm thinking this has something not to do with the max FPS but the minimums, which to me, Nvidia is known not to lag in - no pun intended.

On the other hand, I can't remember what one 5870 did. All I know is that the latest drivers really hurt things. Felt like the game broke. I was getting all kinds of flickering and stuttering. Even after rolling back to the 10.10 drivers. I even disabled X-fire and still had the same issues.

Maybe UT3 is just optimized ,,,or NVIDIA has optimized their cards for UT3 - that very well maybe the case. (or Vice Versa)
