SLI Question

I understand Dell is releasing an SLI based rig...

And, now after the Dell flaming is set aside, I have a question.

Say I decide to purchase the XPS 600, with the Nvidia Dual 7800 SLI. I know it's not an issue now, but in the future if I wanted to run a single Nvidia card is it possible to do so? Of course I don't mean remove one of the 7800s, but when the 7800s aren't 'cutting it' anymore, to say purchase a single card and run it. (I have this feeling that SLI is a 'fad', but that's an opinion of mine.

Anyhow, curiosity got the best of me and I had to ask. Oh! considering the new mobo isn't a Intel board, is it possible to put a AMD in the XPS 600 later down the road?

Prolly not, but again I just had to know!

Thanks guys.

PS. Let's try to keep the flaming on this one to a minimum. Reading the forums I have noticed alot of dislike toward Dell, and I am quite aware of the reasons why. Thanks again.

Are you asking if you can remove both of the 7800's and put in a different card? Of course you can (as long as it's PCI-E).

And no, you won't be able to put in an AMD CPU, because it's an Intel motherboard (socket 775 probably). It doesn't have to be made by Intel to support Intel CPUs.

Ah okay, thanks. I was just wondering that because it's SLI do you have to have two card in it? It can just run on one, that's what your saying?

I am sorry for the [mooninites]dumb questions[/mooninites], but I want to be sure.

Thanks again.

You can run one or two video cards on SLI motherboards. I doubt SLI is a fad given what it offers, but time will tell.
