SLi question for the inexperienced

I am curious after reading all of the articles posted about the new Drivers from Nvidia, 81.85 to be exact. With all these knew games coming out, my 6600GT is getting a little worked on my 21" monitor (I play at 1600x1200 without the eye candy), not anything too much to complain about....

I was just curious about compatability between my Leadtek 6600GT and other 6600GTs that might have a different clock on the memory or core (Leadtek TDH Extreme for example) . Are these compatible as well or do I need the same exact, clocked card?

I know many of you might recommend that I wait and save for a better/single card solution but I really want to experiment with SLi and this card for now....

You know, I might as well as this as well. Anyone think in the near future any and all cards will be SLi compatible with the release of new drivers?

Thanks

erm even 6600gt's in sli are probably going to struggle sooner rather than later....they are usually bested even by a 6800gt, so if you wanna spend some cash, sell the 6600gt and pick up a 7800GT or something

but with regards to drivers.....the 80.xx series will allow you to run any two 6600's be it leadtek and xfx or bfg and evga....the matching vendor thing has gone.

as for clocks well im not sure, i would hazard a guess that the drivers will match the clock speeds on both cards to that of the lowest clocked one. but you can always overclock later

Do you think SLi solutions in the future will be universally compatible? Meaning 6600GT with 7800GT etc.?

That would be great news =)

Why would that be great news?

In AFR, the SLI mode that brings the most advantage, each card renders every other frame.

How much do you think a 7800GT would have to slow down to swap frames with a 6600GT?

What about AA? How much higher AA do you think a 7800GT can do than a 6600GT?

6600GT SLI is pretty fast, but overall one 6800GT is better most of the time. Where a 6600GT SLI will be faster is at high res no AA.

nVidia just gave us too much bang for the buck with the 6800GT.

lol...true...i had a really good time with my 6800 gt last summer
but GZFant...just stay put with your 6600gt until you save up enough money for a 7800gt
by that time...price of 7800 gt will go further down
