SLI Question: 16x mode VS. 8x mode

I was looking at the Epox nForce4 9NPA+SLI board and noticed that if you do SLI it drops down to 8x instead of the regular 16x. How much of a performance hit would that be if I found a board that did 16x in SLI instead?
