SLI problem with 2 6800GTs

Alright system thus far is asus a8n-sli, 2x evga 6800GTs (two identical cards), 512mb of crucial PC3200 DDR. Installed all drivers. Set the little goldfinger to dual video cards on the mobo. Connect the little thing for the video cards. In bios it's set to SLI. I try to enable SLI in the nvidia device manager and I get : "You must remove any graphics cards that are not compatible with NVIDIA Scalable Link Interface (SLI) technology before you can enable SLI". Their is no other video card in this machine but those two.

How do you know they are identical cards? What drivers are you using and dont say "latest".

What are the BIOSes on each gfx card?

running windows XP pro SP2, drivers are the 71.89 off of Nvidia's site. Bios gotta check on the cards. When I say identical I mean by looking at the UPC on the boxes, and the UPCs on the actual cards, I'll have to compare Bios verions of the cards. Mobo is running the 1005 release on a a8n-sli by asus

Just a side note, but you really should get another stick of 512MB ram if you want to take advantage of the otherwise nice system you have.

Ya I know i've been working on it. Got some other expenses and working the storage system... Used a 15k RPM cheetah u160 drive, now upgraded to 36GB for main OS drive. I'll definately slap in another stick, but first I'ld like to get SLI up and running.

I would contact EVGA or whoever before flashing....

maybe your warrenty will get void or you will screw up while flashing.

Who knows.

Bios versions do not matter. As long as they are the same SKU. This is a common misconception of SLI. Bios updates can be done on one card and not the other, SLI should not be affected.

OP: Try switching the SLI card connector around. Also, make sure the dip switches on the motherboard are set for SLI mode. Make sure you have the newest Nvidia drivers installed. If none of these suggestions fixes it, contact Evga. They will get you going for sure.

I would not do any bios flashing until you do my suggestions and ONLY if EVGA says to do it.

I can see clearly what the problem is. Your system is SLI.

This is what you should do, walk back to the post office and buy some stamps and send the useless parts back. Then buy yourself a real system. I suggest using the money to buy an AMD 64 X2 dual core. Have a nice day.

Yeah right.

Let me know when you'd like to compare rigs to my SLI.
3dmark, gaming FPS at high resolutions, high levels of AA/AF.. you name it.

Edit to add- Idiots.

Are you trying to compare penis sizes through your computer?

I bet you I own a bigger house than you.

Being as you are probably asian, I bet my penis is indeed bigger than yours.
But anytime you'd like to run those benchmarks let me know.

I think I'll quote you to keep a record of how stupid you sound for you.

You are the one who brought up penis size d00d.

I sound about as stupid as you do bringing "comparing penis through the computer" comment into it.
And about as dumb as it is to rip on SLI, something that is for sure faster and superior to whatever you have.
And if you have something better, we can see. If it is better, I'd like to buy it.

I'm just saying, if you want to take pics of our houses, computers and penises.. you might be severely disappointed. Not the best avenue to take.

And BTW, my dad can beat up your dad.

Am I the one who brough up benchmarks in order to get a testostrone high off a fricken computer? When you're through pleasuring yourself with your computer you might want to do something more productive than trolling the net for people to compare your might SLI system to.

BTW. My dad carries a glock. So bring your dad on. 😉

Am I the one who took the time to say how the OP needed to send his "useless parts back" when he is having a legitimate problem?
I'm not the one trolling man... reread the progress of the thread! I am/was trying to help..

This coming from the guy who can't lift a finger without typing something stupid. Freakin' priceless.

Your contribution to this thread has been astounding. Great job. You continue to amaze me. Just when I think you've lowered the bar as far as you can, I find myself having to shovel up some more dirt in order to lower it for you again.

To the OP, have you tried each card solo in non-SLI mode to make sure that both work?

I think this type of comment is called SARCASM.

As I said before, you're penis size is not directly proportional to the speed of your computer so try not to get confused. Same goes for you squirrelly.

And try not to get too depressed when I tell you this but... *whispers* "no one but you cares."

Hey guys shut up and give the OP some useful info.

I would check that the Mobo is correctly jumpered for SLI and maybe try some different drivers. However contacting Evga would be the best option, do that first.
