If you're game you could try and o/c the CPU. I believe it has a 10.5 multiplier (w/266 FSB) so you should be able to get good results. If it is your CPU that's causing your games to lag you could possibly overcome it.

Quick question here - will upgrading the monitor actually improve gaming performance ?

As others have said, it will decrease gaming performance due to being higher resolution.

HOWEVER...

Likely it will improve your gaming experience even if you have to lower the quality settings a bit initially.

Other benefit is likely lower power usage (though probably not enough to see any huge power bill difference).

yea if he were coming from a 21" CRT the difference in power draw would be pretty big going to a 20" LCD, but a 15" CRT probably only draws like 25-30w instead of the 100-150 that big CRTs were known for drawing
