SLI or Crossfire on what chipsets?

Will nVidia's SLI only support nVidia cards, and vice versa for ATI's Crossfire? Sorry if it's a stupid question but I was just curious. Also, what chipsets support Crossfire that are not ATI?

nVidia's SLI will only support nVidia cards if you plan on using using SLI, ATI's crossfire likewise will only support crossfire. if your planning on using single GPU though it shouldn't matter. So for example the nforce 680i supports nVidia SLI, but won't be able to run 2 ati cards in crossfire. and the xpress 3200 will support crossfire but won't support SLI. Intel's 975x based motherboard supports Crossfire
