SLI or Crossfire for applications ?

SAINTSINNER

Junior Member
I'm going to get or make new PC soon and I need your advise if computer with 2 cards in SLI or Crossfire mode can improve performance of PC in other programs then games ( 3D Studio, Autocad, Inventor and similar)

Yes, I believe Nvidia's Quadro can run on SLI. Crossfire isn't anywhere near being released and I doubt they would release for workstation cards anyway.

How do you know its not any where near being released? You dont consider a few months, or less, close?

Thats not the point. You said, "Crossfire isn't anywhere near being released", when you have zero proof of this. Thats the point.

Why does it matter? I wasn't replying in a general sense with regard to all users but specifically to the first post. If it upsets you that much, fine, I'll retract that statement and say "Crossfire will probably not be out in time for your PC". Better?

And I'm sure that you don't have proof of anything coming out either, Ackmed.

Anyhow, SAINTSINNER, if you do intend to get the best of the best performance out of your PC at a very large cost and low price/performance ratio, then dual Quadro FX4400 SLI is for you. Brutal beasts in OpenGL applications.

Are those any good in games?

I am imagining around 300fps in doom 3 with 16xAA 16xAF at WGUXGA+ resolutions

EDIT: WGUXGA+ = 3840 x 2400

Quadro use different driver and bios than Geforce to make every pixel is 100% accurate. This make them much slower in game. There are benchmark before you find with search.

It matters because it spreads BS.

Quadros are not optimised for gaming, they are optimised for OpenGL rendering applications. A quadro does not run even similar to a "same architecture" geforce. On top of that, games dont support that resolution, at all. On top of that, 16xAA at anything but 800x600 in doom 3 would be a joke, even on 7800GTX SLI.

Well sorry. It's not like I made a thread saying "Crossfire won't be out till December!". Since the OP said he was building SOON I told him to not bother looking into Crossfire (where soon = a few weeks). Now if soon meant 3 months, then yes, Crossfire will probably be available by then. I'm sorry if that was the case.

BTW, I can't wait for Crossfire either since I have build my system by August. Unfortunately, I'd bet a lot of money I can't buy it in the next 3 weeks.

Any proof that it is about to be released?

Seriously, if you play the waiting game, you will wait forever. There is always going to be something better "just a few more weeks/months" away.
