SLI, Nvidia vs. ATI

Hello, lately ive been reading about SLI this and SLI that but the question is which company makes better use of this new standard. From what ive heard nVidia seems to require you to be running two cards that are exactly the same models running exact clocks. Now as far as ATI ive heard that crossfire will allow you to any x800 or better cards as slaves for the newer cards that will come out. So to me it seems ATI would be a better decision to invest in seeing how that the next time you go to invest in a new video card you can still use you x800 or better card in a SLI setup. I may be completely wrong, so could someone please shed some to light as to which company is the better decision to go with. Thanks

Ok, SLi is much improved. You have to buy the same core card, e.g 6800s, 6600s, etc
but can be from any brand as long as the bios is the same.

Now avaliabilty comes into mind. Crossfire isnt out yet, and no one knows if ATi will do what Nvidia did and release the product at the same time or not (paper launch). While SLi is widely available right now.

Secondly, the X800s only supports S.M2.0b, now the newer games might ONLY use S.M3.0, and hence the game might either not run OR have use S.M1.1, which of course would have quite a difference in IQ.

Drivers could be an issue, since its a new product.

Ati offers lots of features but so to does SLi, with the new 16xAA SLi, and such.
Both need a connector.

I would go for SLi, since its matured more, and also the cards which support SLi supports S.M3.0 which is the interesting point for which platform to buy.

Where can you get Crossfire ??? ... WELL U CANT !!! so the better one is SLI ..

Something VS nothing ... no competition.
