Quick question from sli n00b. I'm thinking of building a rig with an sli mobo gradually. With an sli mobo would my video card not work if i use one 6800 ultra and wait a month to buy the next one? Essentially the question is " do i need to cards mandatory or could i just use one in the meantime?" Lol, again i am not asking if i can achieve sli with one 6800 ultra, thanks.

You can use one card in an SLI board and just add in another one later on. Just flip the card in between the two slots to single card and it will work fine.

That's one of the main selling points of SLI. You can buy one card now, use it as much as you like, then buy another one later on when they are cheaper or you need more horsepower. At least that's how it works theoretically.
