SLI issue with a 2 PNY 8600GT 512MB OC

I purchased 2 PNY Verto Geforce 8600 GT OC with 512MB of DDR3 memory on each card from CompUSA. I installed one of the cards cause I was wait on EVGA to send me an SLI bridge that was missing from my mobo. Anyways I can play Crysis at medium settings and COD4 at high settings in my native resolution on my 22 inch monitor (1680x1050) with no problems.

Weeks go by and EVGA finally sends me my SLI bridge. I put the second card in and enable sli from the Nvidia controll panel. I can play Hellgate London just fine in my native res, but when I try to play Crysis or COD4 in SLI on my native res the screen just blinks. i can see the game but the screen still blinks almost like a TV in the fritz.

I have tried several driver versions and still no such luck. I happend in Vista and XP. I haven't posted anything in awhile cause you guys usually have had the problem solved it, perfected and I usually just search and find an answer, but this one has me stumped. I got there two card cause I was told I could have a decent gaming experience with them in SLI. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the world of Multi-GPU solutions and half-assed drivers. Sounds like you're being held back by the flaky support that games had for SLI and Crossfire.

I'm pretty sure Crysis doesn't support SLI yet, either.

why on earth would you want to SLI 2 8600s?......wouldnt even a single GTS320 be faster than those?

forget i asked...its a free country...

I suggest you take them both back and buy 1 8800gt. If you can

Yikes!

SLI makes no sense unless we're talking high end.

I seriously doubt that's possible now. I'm sure the OP knows that the 8800GT is a better option NOW but he's stuck with what he's got.

OP: Sorry, I don't have any advice for you other than to wait for better drivers (or eBay your cards and buy a better one.)

What driver are you using?

Also a way to find out if its related to SLI is to check if this happens with SLI turned off. Also make sure your bridge is connected properly.

Anyway I suggest trying a newer driver, such as 169.25

I've found that COD4 has problems with SLI. I enabled SLI, then activated nHancer profiles, and went into settings in COD4 and changed to Dual-Video-Card mode and all I got were artifacts. Shading didn't work properly and trees turned red (bright neon red). So I turned off the setting in COD4's menu, and I don't get the same performance but it doesn't artifact. I've had problems with SLI from the beginning. Most of my games hate it and usually artifact from it....

Well what does the nHancer profile do? Have you tried it without that, also what driver did you use?

To be honest, I think a lot of these SLI problems are user errors. I see a lot of people getting SLI and then adding driver mods, going into profiles and changing them up then complain about problems.
