Ok so I have my new PC :

MSI K8N mobo
Athlon 64 4000+
2 GB Corsair RAM
2-BFG 6800GT's in SLI
2-74MB WD Raptors in RAID0

Everything working good when I got computer.

But now if I try either one of these thing.

1) Battlefield 2 came out tonight so I installed the 77.30 driver that came with the game or
2) If I leave the 71.89 driver thats currently working and try to disable SLI from the display control panel.
3) Update... Tried to install 72.13 drivers. Same result.

I reboot and I don't even get to the XP login screen before I get a really quick BSOD and then the computer reboots. Both 1 and 2 above do the exact same thing. Problem is I can't tell what the BSOD is because it flys by so fast, its just a flash.

I then have to either boot to Safe mode or Last Known good configuration to get it back working with the original config.

I have ran 3dMark05 for a good hour or two with no problems.

Anyone have any ideas here? I would appreciate it.

EDIT:

OK I got some more information. I was able to get the BSOD after doing step 2.

It basically gives me all the common stuff, then I have

***STOP : 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0x80536D7F,0xBACFF2D8,0xBACFEFDH)

First, go to your System Properties, select the Advanced tab, then Settings under StartUp and Recovery. In this window, at the bottom, make sure Automatically Restart is UNchecked. Hopefully this will allow you to see the error messages for the BSOD.

Now, as to WHY you're getting BSODs...

Hard to say without additional testing. Most BSODs are memory related, so we should start there. What are your BIOS settings for your memory and cpu (HTT, LDT, multi, CPC, etc)? For testing purposes, we'll want them all at default.

With them all at default, run Memtest 86+. Test that RAM for several passes. Overnight if you can. Then, run other stability programs such as SuperPI on the 32M setting and Prime95.

If all of these tests pass, then let's loop 3dmark05. But, before we do that, let's clean up your nV drivers. You've installed a lotta drivers recently, so let's clean it out and get a fresh start. Uninstall your nV gfx drivers, reboot into safe mode, and run DriverCleaner Pro to remove the left-over. Reboot again and install the 71.89. I don't see a good reason to use the ones with BF2 until I see others bless those. BF2 runs fine on the 71.89 for me. Now that you have a clean driver slate, and have passed all of the other memory testing, loop 3dmark05 for a good 8 hours or so.

Check the end of my original message. I posted what I got from the BSOD. Thats all I see no mention of a driver or anything else.

***STOP : 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0x80536D7F,0xBACFF2D8,0xBACFEFDH)

Also, I can't even just reinstall 71.89 without it crashing after the reinstall.

Let me try the driver cleaner stuff as well.

Update: Tried driver cleaner after uninstalled and boot to safe mode. 71.89 reinstall doesn't work same crash.

Looks like your board undervolts CPU voltage (like most NF4 boards). Do you know how to get into your BIOS and increase that voltage a smidge? Set it at or around 1.45v and let it the undervolt to around 1.4v.

But, even then, low CPU voltage usually results in a lockup, reboot, or app crash rather than a BSOD. So, I don't think that's gonna fix anything, but you never know.

I still would like to see some memory tests to ensure stability. If you're looking for something quick and easy, download SuperPI and run the 32M test. It won't take all night. 30 mins or less on a system like yours. If it passes, I'm willing to look elsewhere.

It's odd that your 71.89 are crashing on install. You might try to download them again from nV's site. Or, since I've read many people using the drivers included with BF2 and had no problems, go ahead and use those.

I just did a pass with memtest86, took about 45 min. No errors.

I guess I can try SuperPI as well.

Also, the PC doesn't crash at all while its running in windows and seems fairly stable so far.

The crashing only happens on reboot right before the Windows login prompt comes up.

Its like I install a driver or make a change to the video settings and it all goes haywire.

I have tried the drivers with BF2, I have tried 72.13, and 71.89. All give me a BSOD on reboot after installing. The install seems fine, its only after a reboot.

Even if I don't reinstall and just uncheck Enable SLI in the options, then reboot, I get the same BSOD, and have to resort back to Last known good configuration.

Ok so I just opened the computer up and pulled one of the video cards out.

Rebooted and tried to installed the 77.30 drivers. They installed fine and PC rebooted fine.

So could it be something that the SLI config doesn't like about installing a new driver?

Gonna try to add the card back and see if all works or if a crash now.

WEEEE... I took your advice and bumped the CPU voltage to 1.45v and it boots now to windows with 77.30 drivers and SLI config.

About to run an hours worth of 3dMark05 to see how it holds up.

But I think we are on the right track for sure.

Thanks for your help deadseasquirrel !!!!

Battlefield 2 works fine for me with SLI, but I am somewhat annoyed someone is using Rollo as their online nickname.....

Hi,
Glad i Found this,
I have exactly the same problem only i compounded it a lot.

After installing BF2 nvidia drivers my system crashed a lot not startup and r to boot didnt work, tried my Recovery cd (big mistake 2) and super crahes everywhere on windows start unrecognised devices etc.

Brought new XP pack as mine preinstalled and hence dead

Reinstalled windows

Sat back and waited

Got Stop Bad pool Caller
Fixed that

Keep getting

0x0000007E 0X0000005 0X8054A832 0XF7C963EO 0XF7C960DC

and every Fourth re boot get into pc.

Microsfot say device driver error im currently on driver vers 77.72 and still having this issue.

I know my geforce 5200 isnt supported by the game but i believe that the BF2 nvidia drivers have caused mayhem with my Graphics card ram or installation and now im stuck ?

I recently installed a gig of ram but microsofts ram checker passed that all ok.

Any help really really appreciated.

Update: I just sent this in to BFG, but I think Microsoft is diagnosing this as an Nvidia driver issue.

Symptoms:
1. With mobo SLI selector hardware set to Normal mode, no problems.
2. Switch the hardware, enable SLI mode I get rare issues of a Hard-reboot, no error. I'm assuming the is the Video cards drivers.
3. Run BF2... system locks up right around the login screen. Screen freezes, mouse still moves, sound studders at 5-10 second intervals, then reboot after 20-30 seconds. This happens every time. And returns this error from Microsoft Microsoft Article
4. I send DxDiag to EA, they recommended a roll back to 71.89, I did this with the same result as before.

Hardware:
Giga-byte KN8NXP-SLI
AMD X2 4200
2x512 Coursair Extralow latency ram
2xBFG 6600GT (purchased from Newegg.com, on 6/18)
550w power supply
24pin SLI power connector
Latest drivers/bios all around (77.72 and 71.89 both tried for the VGA)

WinXP Home edition

This seems to be a common issue with multiple games, so for more info from other with the same problem, check out this discussion thread. this thread
