SLI for 9800

I currently have a 9800 GTX card, and was wondering if it was possible to SLI my old 65nm 9800 gtx with the new 9800 gtx+? or would that not be possible?

Don't think so, I'd just grab a 'old' 9800gtx for 200$, with some luck you can even find a overclocked one.

Oh wait, they will both run at the same clockspeed, so whatever the slowest card is, the other card will run at the same speed. So no need for a overclocked one if you don't have one allready, and overclocking doesn't work in SLI I think ?

I believe you can overclock SLI cards with EVGA's new OC tool... I can't remember the name of it, just check out EVGA's forums.

Dont know 100% about SLI but in CF both cards can be clocked independently and it shows increase.

My first card is a Visiontek 3870 (stock clocks 800/1170) @ 840/1170 - (mem will not OC on this card? )
2nd is a Sapphire 3870 (stock clocks 775/1126) @ 880/1250 - (notice it starts lower stock clocks, but OC's much higher)

Having both cards @ 840/1170 nets me a Vantage score of P8654 having ONLY the 2nd card overclocked more the score raises to P8872

Ok, well ill have to test the OC'n ability out, but if I were to clock the old 9800 gtx the same speed as the 9800 gtx+, would they be able to SLI? Or will the cards differences not allow SLI between them? i know that nvidia wont do SLI for different cards, however I was just wondering if the switch to 55nm would cause the SLI not to work also.

Just get another 9800GTX instead, they're cheaper and that gives you a lot of GPU power. If you look at the multiGPU benchmarks in the 4870 review, SLI 9800GTX+ beats 9800GX2, GTX 280, and even challenges CF 4870 in several cases.

And you should be able to OC two 9800GTX cards to the same speed as the + version yielding the same performance.

yeah thats probably what i'll do, i can oc my stock 9800 gtx to the ssc speeds and i figured that just grabbing another one would be better than upgrading to the next level card.

Read Marc's Edit above, It will work, and it will just equal out performance wise, and it will be ok.

go to www.slizone.com, and it will give you the exact verbiage.
